This is where I share the heart of what I do—writing, speaking, and encouraging more kindness in the everyday moments that make up our lives.
Here, you’ll find the books I’ve written about reflections on leadership, connection, and the quiet power of compassion. I also give talks and lead discussions on these topics—often for community groups, churches, schools, and anyone looking to spark meaningful conversation. If you're interested in one of my books or would like to invite me to speak at an event, feel free to reach out. About Me

After many years of running a small business, I’ve found a deeper sense of purpose in writing about what matters most: connection, compassion, leadership, and the small, often-overlooked moments that shape our lives. My books draw on real-world experience—whether leading stress management classes in a prison and county jail, or sitting across the table as a small claims court mediator, where listening with care can make all the difference.
Teaching has become another way to share what I’ve learned. At the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Drake University in Des Moines, I introduce students to Artificial Intelligence as a practical, everyday tool. I also substitute teach at a local high school, where the energy and resilience of the next generation keep me both hopeful and on my toes. Along the way, I’ve taught guided meditation classes and created Mind Journeys Guided Meditations, a podcast that’s reached listeners in more than 45 countries. My work as a certified hypnotist has complemented these efforts, offering people tools to manage stress, find calm, and approach life with greater clarity.
Beyond teaching and writing, I stay connected through creative and community projects. I play classic rock in a local band, occasionally teach classes on stress management, and host The Kindness Blog on Facebook, which has grown into a global community devoted to everyday acts of kindness.
At home in Iowa with my wife, Carol, I enjoy time with our kids and grandkids, who keep life lively and full. For me, writing and teaching remain steady ways to slow down, sift through the noise, and offer something useful to others traveling similar paths.

My Books

Here you’ll find the books I’ve written—each one rooted in reflection, everyday life, and the power of kindness. I write about how we can live with more compassion, lead with heart, and find calm in a noisy world. Whether it’s through personal stories, practical wisdom, or gentle encouragement, my goal is to help readers live with more meaning, connection, and grace.

The Kindness Plan is a gentle guide to making kindness a daily habit—one thoughtful step at a time. Through real-life stories, simple practices, and heartfelt reflection, this book invites you to bring more compassion into your life and the lives of those around you. Whether you're looking to strengthen relationships, ease stress, or make the world a little better, The Kindness Plan offers a practical roadmap for living with more empathy, connection, and joy. It’s not about grand gestures—it’s about showing up with kindness, every day.

The Power of Kind Leadership challenges the outdated idea that strength and kindness can’t coexist. With real-world insights and practical tools, this book shows how leaders who lead with empathy, respect, and integrity don’t just create healthier workplaces—they inspire better results. Drawing on stories from business, community work, and personal experience, it offers a fresh take on what it means to be effective, trusted, and truly influential. Whether you’re leading a team, a classroom, or a community, this book will help you harness the quiet strength of kindness to lead with courage and purpose.

What the Day Leaves Behind is a quiet collection of reflections on the beauty, mystery, and meaning found in everyday life. From a walk through the neighborhood to a moment of stillness in a waiting room, each short piece invites the reader to pause, notice, and reflect. With warmth, honesty, and a gentle sense of wonder, the book explores how even ordinary moments can leave behind something lasting—insight, connection, or simply a deeper breath. It’s a companion for anyone seeking calm in a noisy world and meaning in the seemingly mundane.

The Gemeinschaft Way explores what happens when we shift from a life of isolation and competition to one rooted in connection, community, and emotional well-being. Drawing on the old German concept of Gemeinschaft—a way of living that values deep relationships and shared purpose—this book invites readers, especially men, to rethink success, identity, and what it means to truly belong. With personal stories, cultural insights, and practical guidance, it offers a fresh path forward: one where kindness, vulnerability, and community aren’t signs of weakness, but sources of strength.

Finding Calm In The Political Chaos is a practical, no-nonsense guide for staying grounded when the political world feels overwhelming. In an age of constant outrage, division, and noise, this book offers tools to protect your peace of mind without tuning out completely. Through thoughtful reflection, relatable stories, and simple strategies, it helps readers navigate political stress, engage with clarity, and stay connected to what truly matters. Whether you're burned out, anxious, or just trying to make sense of it all, this book is your roadmap to calm, compassion, and perspective.
